To raise a loan,go out and borrow rich robes. Bank managers are highly
impressed by borrowers who dress up richly. Be scrupulously careful not to give the impression that you need the money. Your bank manager will be deeply impressed. If you dress to show that you need the money, you are sure you will be thrown out.
- How to be a Nigerian by Peter Enahoro
One is reminded of a teacher who put a "mental arithmetic' question to his class. There are ten goats lined up before a fence, he said; eight goats leap over the fence, how many are left?. All children but one replied, 'two'. The exception was a little boy who was summoned to the teacher's desk. 'Eight goats leap over the fence' the teacher repeated. 'how many are left] 'None, sir' said the little one. As the teacher raised his cane, the little one held up his hand. 'Sir,' he said'before you beat me let me
say this. You may know arithmetic, but you don't seem to know goats'.
